Computers and Cars
At a computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared The computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: if GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they painted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn, would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to re-install the engine.
6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.
8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.
10. Occasionally for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50 percent or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Dept.
12. Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
13. You'd press the "start" button to shut off the engine.Current Mood: tired

LOS ANGELES - The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is buying Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing such characters as Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by the comic book legend Stan Lee.Current Mood: apathetic

Reset
|

About the reset. I am not to hurt over the XP loss for the characters. They "fixed" the draw pool and that will help most of the characters' small pools so that they wont have to cheeze it too much. Unfortunately, we are gamers. When we see an opportunity for cheeze we typically go for it. This system is going to cause a lot of people to min/max characters
The real issue that I have with the soft reset is that it is a soft reset in just a couple of months. Characters everywhere are loosing at least half of the XP that they earned, even if it was a writeup, game, special XP (overcap) or whatever else. They are to make their old characters as close to the current ones that you can. There are some characters that just can't do that. It doesn't make sense.
If they decide to pull a hard reset, I might stay. Having all character everywhere simply one day/night understand that they can't do a lot of the things that they were able to do before makes no real sense to me. I understand that they are going to be puting story into play that will explain it, but it still means the same thing: my character now is a shadow of what it was.
If someone makes a new character, that is great. The issue with that logic is the fact that it isn't a new game. New characters in an already established game means that you are a step behind others (even NPCs) that are already there. All and all, it kinda sucks all around.
I have seen that they are (maybe) thinking about puting the bumps per three dots of MC back in. I guess that I am alright with that, but it still comes back to the same thing: why is my character a little less powerful now than he was after four years of play? The characters have done so much for the Domain as a whole, building story and interacting with NPC/PCs alike.
We are now approaching the Venue of Dim Lighting. It is no longer the World of Darkness that I started with. I am tired of VSTs having to make up all of the story in this game from nothing. I am tired of looking at the books that keep coming out and only seeing mechanics and odd stories here and there. I am tired of being in a game that doesn't seem to care too much about the players and their enjoyment in game any longer.
I think that, when the reset happens at least, I am just going to stay home for a little bit and see what I can enjoy with a couple of table top games of the Old World of Darkness. If that goes well, Shawn and I will transfer those rules to a Larp based system and see if people will like it. Ah, back to some actual story from the books that you read. No more having to explain the story of this or that, just say "well, just go ahead and look in this book. It's all there!"Current Mood: cranky Current Music: Furnace

One of the best movies that I have seen to date. The villain was exceptional, smart and read the evil overlord's handbook! It is not a movie that kids should see, though we were sitting directly in front of a few kids (two of them around five and eight) and two thirds into it finally left, after watching someone get very bloodily dismembered.
It is an R rating, so I am sure that the parents that accompanied the kids (sitting right there with them telling them to close their eyes anytime a bad scene happened...almost always) knew that they shouldn't be there. It is not a movie that anyone who has a weak stomach should be seeing or hasn't matured. One of the main actors (admittedly on Jon Stewart) said that even he was uncomfortable watching it. There is a bit of male nudity as well as female, but it isn't (usually) anything sexual. There are a lot of deaths and the movie is downright depressing sometimes.
I think that it had one of the most depressing happy endings that I have ever scene anywhere. I loved how the characters were played and thought that the whole world was made very well. I hope that anyone that is on the fence about watching it will go and enjoy it, but not with their kids or loved one (unless your loved one is into that, I suppose). Fragile senses beware!Current Mood: nauseated

Well, some interesting things happened today. This morning I found out that I am disabled. Who'd a thunk? Apparently the trial went well and I may be getting a nifty check eventually (sometime between now and later, I suppose...who knows when;).
Rachael and I signed a nice little document for a new house. It is very nice and is in a great neighborhood, along with all of the things that we wanted (kicking basement, almost all new appliances, pellet stove that heats almost everything, nice back yard, etc.). Met with the lawyer type people and handed over a hefty check. Hopefully we will be moved in by the beginning of August. It seems that the house has only cosmetic issues and even that is a very small amount. The people in it are moving to S.C., so they were looking to have it bought soon to be able to be there by august for the dad to get his masters degree. Hey, more power too them and I feel very happy buying a house for around fifty-sixty thousand less than it should.
Other than that, everything is going fairly well. Work has been going alright. Rachael likes her job and her business seems to be still going. Hope everything is going to be going well for everyone else out there. Have a good summer!Current Mood: excited

Man, drugs are the best thing in the world. Finally, after a little over a year I am starting to feel much more like myself. I am not as sick as I used to be, I don't mind cleaning things again (or organizing), I don't mind doing daily activities and I love my wife so much everyday. It is about flippin time! I hated being all down in the dumps all the time where I didn't want to do anything. I am just happy it is starting to get better. Who knows, I might even stay this way!Current Mood: happy

Man, sometimes I just don't understand why I am still in the Cam. I like getting the things done that I do, I like the people that I play with locally and usually games afar, and I like the roleplaying part of it. Unfortunatly, some people seem to take the jobs that they do a bit too seriously. I do a bunch for the Cam, locally and a few things from away. I just don't understand it sometimes when people that have titles in front of their names get really kinda tiffed when something isn't done correctly. This is a organization that people volunteer their free time to do, not get paid to do it (Prestige doesn't really count, as far as I believe). I think that people would just be a lot happier if they had more fun with games and correcting people instead of chastising them when something goes wrong. Sometimes people do things because they are doing what they believed was the right thing to do, not because they knew it would get to them.
On other news, I am liking my job a bit. I have had a bad time with some new drugs that I am on, but my doctor did tell me that it would happen before it gets better. It is pretty odd being overly emotional about a bunch of things when they happen. Everything now adays seems to REALLY affect me like I can barely stand to have it happen. I know that I must have snapped at my wife a couple of times, but she is very understanding about all of it. She knew that it would happen and she accepts it. Man, I love her.
We have been looking for a house for a bit, and we seem to have found a couple that might work for us. The ones that we have found seem to be in our price range, are fairly nice, don't need a lot of work (if at all) and are in nice areas. We just have to decide which one we are going to take and wait until cash comes and bills are paid off and we will be ready to purchase. Just a couple of months, we hope and we should be in a new place.
That is all for now, I suppose. I hope that everyone has a nice week and finds someone special to enjoy on Valentine's day, as I will be!

- Rome did not create a great empire by having meetings, they did it by killing all those who opposed them.
- If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos...then you probably haven't completely understood the seriousness of the situation.
- Doing a job RIGHT the first time gets the job done. Doing the job WRONG fourteen times gives you job security.
- Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
- Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity
- A person who smiles in the face of adversity...probably has a scapegoat.
- Plagiarism saves time.
- If at first you don't succeed, try management.
- Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid altogether.

| What Derrick Means | You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row. You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace. People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality.
You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.
You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.
You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.
You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily. You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind. A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable.
You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life. You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip. People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them. |

I Am A: Lawful Good Elf Ranger (5th Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength-13
Dexterity-17
Constitution-14
Intelligence-15
Wisdom-18
Charisma-17
Alignment: Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.
Race: Elves are known for their poetry, song, and magical arts, but when danger threatens they show great skill with weapons and strategy. Elves can live to be over 700 years old and, by human standards, are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. Elves are slim and stand 4.5 to 5.5 feet tall. They have no facial or body hair, prefer comfortable clothes, and possess unearthly grace. Many others races find them hauntingly beautiful.
Class: Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

| » Days o' Derrick |
I was just given (within a week or so) this wonderful pink pill by my Dr. I have been having headaches since I awoke in the hospital back in 98. Apparently, these are chronic headaches, so my Dr informs me. I have had them every day since then, most of the time not that bad. As of late, they have really taken me out. I have just sat in my bed with my pillow over my head hoping that there wont be anymore sound or light that will affect my headache. After getting my wisdom teeth out, they have seemed to really increase in strength. I was using the pain pills that I got just for the headaches sometimes.
Come to find out, the thousand dollar drug (1004 dollars a month, stupidly enough) while helping with my Crohn's moderately, has been steadily increasing my headaches. It is a common side effect. My Dr solves it, mostly anyway, by perscribing me Darvocet. It is a wonderful pill that allows me to actually go through the day. I only have 15 doses for the month, and I started realizing how often I have them. Ugh, I love pain. At least it is being treated.
On other news, I am to be married in seven days. I am so happy to have found someone who loves me for who I am and accepts me as I am. She has been through a lot these past two years and I am sure that she knows that there will be a lot more to come. I love her so much and find it hard to even think of a day without her in it. It is fairly odd for me to have found someone who actually enjoys a lot of the same things that I do and doesn't mind some of the ones that she didn't do before we met. I can't wait to get married so that we can put this who thing behind us. There has been some stress that I was hoping to avoid for the wedding, but alas it was not to be so.
For our Honeymoon will be going to Canada to stay in a place called the "Castle Inn". From the pictures that I have seen and the things that Rachael has told me, it really looks like it is going to be a really nice place. I will love being able to spend it with Rachael and not have to worry about anyone else while we are there. It will be nice being able to just relax and do whatever we would like. After that we are coming home and the next day traveling to Bangor for a night or so. Bar Harbor is a place that neither of us have really ever been too, so we thought that we would look it over for the day. We hope that it wont be that busy, as this is the ending of the season for that. I suppose that we will just take it as it comes.
Well, that is enough rambling. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful time and enjoys the last of the Summer. I know that I will!

Well, another year has come and gone. I think that this past one has been pretty good, 'cept for the whole I haven't been able to work since November. I have a woman who I love very much and she brings it back just the same. I have a few friends that back me up no matter what I go through. I have what I need for things, though a person always wants more. I have a wedding to look forward too come Sept first, which will be very nice I am sure.
Well, next year on this date I will hit the big thirty (ominous sounding music). I am very happy with my life and believe that you should look at the good side of things much more than the bad. I think that I am fairly good at that, as I don't seem to get angry very much or upset over too many things. I think that if you just live your life like you want it everything should go just about fine. There are always a few things that make you stop and catch your breath, but I believe that it was meant to happen and you are a stronger individual because of it.
Well, I hope that people have a good summer and make sure that you enjoy what you have, what you do, and who you are. If you wont, who is going to know to do so?
